Quasi Rublev
Goska Isphording [ harpsichord ]
Kasia Glowicka [ electronics, composer ]
Roos Theuws [ video ]
Mathis Nitschke [ video ]
This production is a 60 minute live performance that fuses
the somber sound of the harpsichord with live electronics
and video projection in a work inspired by the hypnotically
enchanting, intensly personal imagery of director Andrei
Tarkovsky.
In Quasi Rublev, four artists inspired by Tarkovsky's movie
'Andrei Rublev' translate the dreamlike, metaphorical
imagery of the film into their own artistic creation focusing on
the famous long takes and long pacings of the film.
The performing duo consists of harpsichordist Goska
Isphording and live electronics by composer Kasia
Glowicka with visual projections by Roos Theuws and
Mathis Nitchke. The audience is presented with a live
performance inspired by several carefully chosen scenes
from Tarkovsky's monumental film which touch deeper into
Tarkovsky's art formed by a meaningful and broader
connection between the collaborators. As the director writes
in his book Sculpting in time: "Will, feeling, emotion - these
remove obstacles from between people who otherwise stand
on opposite sides of a mirror."
The project was developed at STEIM studios in Amsterdam,
at the Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC) in Northern
Ireland, and was made possible with support of Nederlands
Fonds voor Podiumkunsten and the Arts Council of Northern
Ireland. Special thanks to 'Mosfilm' studios and Andrei
Arsenovich Tarkovsky.
